I am recruiting a VP Sustainability & ESG Government Relations & Policy for a global bank in London.

You will:

  • Ensure the bank leverages its Group-wide resources appropriately to have the greatest possible influence on the formulation of ESG policy by external policy makers and standard setters;
  • Working with a broad range of internal stakeholders to formulate responses to changes in, or formation of legislation via position papers, consultation responses and meetings;
  • Designing, documenting, and delivering strategic political stakeholder engagement plans for the CEO and other ExCo members to enhance political understanding and favourability towards the bank and its operations;
  • Coordinating and writing briefs for senior representatives ahead of key government meetings;
  • Supporting the firm’s interaction with relevant trade associations and industry bodies on UK policy issues;
  • Ensuring regular updates of the policy agenda relevant to the bank are provided to key stakeholders, working very closely in partnership with colleagues notably in the impacted business areas - ESG, Strategy, Legal, Compliance, Treasury, Finance and Risk;
  • Horizon scanning for new, emerging or changes in ongoing political and public policy developments that impact the bank’s strategic objectives.

You will have:

  • Strong understanding and experience of ESG and climate agenda and experience of dealing with government regulatory stakeholders, possibly gained through working in a regulator, government or financial services areas of a professional services firm;
  • Excellent communication skills - spoken and written and an ability to explain complex policy issues and topics at a non-technical level;
  • High levels of initiative and an ability to anticipate and solve problems;
  • Strong coordination and organisation skills and ability to multi-task and turnaround requests quickly under pressure;
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships;
  • Experience of briefing senior stakeholders.
